Part of a research project to better understand the action of prosthetic running blades and how they interact with the user from a fundamental dynamics perspective.

This work was undertaken in association with Bournemouth University, Ossur and MSR Dataloggers.

The end result was the development of a wearable system that could record the running action of any specific individual to identify the limitations of the system and improve the prescription process of prosthetic running devices.

Built for elite athlete Pete Hawkins for the 2008 XTerra World Championships in Maui, HI. The frame uses flat plate carbon fibre / aluminium sandwich chainstays to provide vertical rear wheel compliance with high lateral stiffness, and a pultruded integrated seatpost bonded in place.

The bike helped Pete to take the gold medal and become World Champion.
